About Graduate Schools
In graduate school, students will utilize the basic knowledge they gained in undergraduate studies to hone their ability to set their own research goals, identify research topics, and find solutions to those research topics. They will also receive training to acquire communication and presentation skills related to their research topics.

At the same time as becoming a corporation, our university placed emphasis on graduate schools and established a foundation as a research-oriented university. Specifically, in order to realize the sophistication of education and research, in 2004 we reorganized the organization that had been an integrated education and research structure at the time, and established a new university-wide research organization, the Symbiosis Science and Technology Research Department (renamed the Symbiosis Science and Technology Research Institute in 2006). As a result, most of Faculty Member belong to the Symbiosis Science and Technology Research Institute, which is a research organization, and by establishing an advanced and organic research environment that transcends the boundaries of agriculture and engineering and carrying out system reforms, we have been able to achieve certain results in the field of agriculture and engineering integration.
Based on these results, in April 2010, our university reorganized from one research institute to two in order to disseminate even higher quality, cutting-edge research results. While maintaining university-wide research cooperation, we are further accelerating the agile and flexible implementation of cutting-edge research in the fields of agriculture and engineering, and promoting the development of a research environment that can quickly respond to the formation of new fields, the evolution of knowledge, and changes in social and industrial needs. In addition, while continuing our research-oriented approach as a research-based university that separates education and research, we will fully integrate research organizations and advanced education organizations centered on faculties, and aim for synergistic effects in both "education" and "research" with research leading education.
At the same time, we have established a "Collaboration Ring" as a forum for intellectual stimulation where Faculty Member can freely discuss ideas with each other, transcending the boundaries of the two graduate schools and departments, and are taking various measures to promote interdisciplinary research activities between the two graduate schools.
Furthermore, in April 2016, we established Institute of Global Innovation Research as a new graduate research organization, which is promoting cutting-edge research that can compete on the world stage, focusing on the university's priority fields of "food," "energy," and "life sciences," and is cultivating excellent young talent.
