Institute of Agriculture [Research Institution]

Introducing Institute of Agriculture [Research Organization].

Message from the Dean

The diversity of "agricultural science" gives birth to originality that will shape the next era

This graduate school is composed of Faculty Member are responsible for education and research in the field of agriculture. Agriculture is an academic field that supports the connection between nature and humans, and has a great mission of tackling important issues related to the survival of humanity, such as food and resource issues, environmental issues, population issues, and infectious diseases. The scope of academic fields is wide, and by understanding and respecting each other's specialties in this wide diversity, and by demonstrating one's own individuality, new proposals for the international community and important guidelines for opening up the next era are created. Academic research activities deeply rooted in expertise, carried out in a diverse environment, are the source of originality. And high-level original research results with a broad perspective directly lead to high-quality education for students. We hope that through activities in the field of agriculture, Faculty Member and students will fully utilize their abilities together, become the main actors in creative activities, and actively promote academic research and contributions to society.

Structure of Institute of Agriculture's Divisions and Locations

Division of Science of Biological Production

Our mission is to conduct scientific research into the production, utilization, and processing of useful organisms such as plants and animals. We utilize organisms nurtured by the power of nature for the benefit of humans, while also conducting research to address practical issues related to the utilization and cultivation of organisms.

Division of Studies in Sustainable and Symbiotic Society

To foster broad-minded specialists and researchers in the fields of humanities and social sciences who understand science and technology in various agricultural fields, envision the creation of a symbiotic and sustainable society, and have outstanding abilities in planning, task execution, and coordination. To achieve this goal, we are simultaneously conducting innovative academic research in three research fields.

Division of Applied Biological Chemistry

Based on chemistry and biology, we are conducting research to understand and elucidate life phenomena and biological functions not only from the perspective of the individual, cellular, and molecular levels, but also from the perspective of the interrelationships between them, and to apply and develop the knowledge and technology gained, aiming for a high level fusion of fundamentals and applied research.

Division of Bioregulation and Biointeraction

We conduct research in the fields of biotechnology and bioscience, which analyzes interactions between organisms, the mechanisms of organisms' responses and adaptation to their environments, and the mechanisms of organisms' genetics, development, and physiological functions at various levels, from the molecular level to individuals, populations, and communities, and applies these to the modification and control of organisms.

Division of Natural Resources and Ecomaterials

Focusing on the material circulation system from plant resource production to disposal, we conduct research on structural analysis and functional evaluation of resource materials from the molecular to macroscopic level, utilization technologies, regeneration technologies, elucidation and control of biodegradation mechanisms, evaluation and reduction of the environmental burden of resource use, etc.

Division of Environmental Science on Biosphere

We conduct research into the elucidation of material cycles in the atmosphere, soil, water, and biosphere and the factors involved in them, environmental prediction and restoration, the distribution of environmental pollutants and their impact on living organisms, and future predictions.

Division of Environment Conservation

We conduct interdisciplinary research into the sustainable use, conservation, management and restoration of the natural environment, focusing on wildlife, mountains and forests, cities and humans.

Division of Environmental and Agricultural Engineering

We utilize methods from agricultural science and engineering to build sustainable food production systems while protecting the local environment and utilizing renewable energy, and we conduct basic, fundamental, and interdisciplinary research necessary to achieve regional environmental improvement and national land restoration.

Division of International Environmental and Agricultural Science

We are conducting comprehensive and interdisciplinary research utilizing cutting-edge findings from various fields of agricultural science in order to effectively mitigate and resolve global issues, particularly international food and environmental issues based on agricultural science.

Division of Animal Life Science

We utilize cutting-edge methods in life science to advance research and education in the fields of basic veterinary medicine, pathological veterinary medicine, applied veterinary medicine, and clinical veterinary medicine, thereby contributing to the creation of a rich human society and the preservation of a safe and secure living environment.

Division of  Sciences for Biological System

We conduct cutting-edge and interdisciplinary research into sustainable food production and environmental conservation.
